6 Simple Little Mindset Shifts That Can Change Your Life Forever

You’re busy, so I’ll keep this quick.

Following are 6 simple little mindset shifts that have changed my life… and can change yours, too.

1. Why Am I Doing This? -> What’s The Alternative

When you’re doing something hard, you probably think to yourself, “Why am I doing this?”

That’s okay.

We all do.

In response to that thought, ask yourself, “What’s the alternative?”

To not do hard, meaningful things you actually care about? To quit when things become difficult? To live a comfortable life you’re not excited about?

The alternative should scare you more than whatever obstacle you’re facing.

2. Always 110% -> Embrace Your Ebb & Flow

The internet is full of bad advice. Some of which goes something like this…

“Work harder!”

“Hustle more!”

“Always give 110%!”

You’re a human. Not a machine. Learn to work with your unique ebb and flow. Embrace the high seasons and, during the low seasons, fall back into “maintenance mode” so you don’t lose previously built momentum. Understand that no season is permanent and there’s always a new season right around the corner.

3. Comfort Zone -> Life is Suffering

The comfort zone doesn’t exist.

You can either suffer because you’re pushing yourself to do hard, meaningful things. Or you can suffer because you’ve settled for too little in life..

Strive for your suffering not to be meaningless.

4. Negative Thoughts -> Play Devil’s Advocate

We all have negative thoughts.

“I’m not good enough.”

“I’ll never succeed.”

“Everthing is falling apart.”

But reality doesn’t give a sh*t about your negative opinion. It’s just reality.

In the same way that you might play devil’s advocate with someone’s over-genereralized statements, play devil’s advocate with your own negative thoughts — you’ll uncover how ridiculous they are.

5. What if it Doesn’t Work? -> What if it Does?

Those of us who are too smart for our own good often ask ourselves, “What if it doesn’t work out?” We spend more time on our plan B than we do on our plan A.

Instead, ask yourself “What if it does work?”

How exciting would that be?

At the very least, you’ve got to give it your all and see how it ends.

6. Find Yourself -> Define Yourself

Ever get caught up trying to “find yourself”?

Don’t.

There is no fate. There is no destiny.

Descartes proved his own existence with the statement, “I think, therefore I am.”

It’s your job to fill in the rest (and no one else can do it for you). “I am, therefore…”

Don’t find yourself. Define yourself.
