Re-DIE-rement

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

– Howard Thurman

“I’m 65 years old and I can finally do anything I want with my life!”

Yikes.

To live 6 ½ decades of your life doing crap other people wanted you to do… and then spend the least healthy couple decades you have left finally pursuing your own dreams…

That’s terrifying.

Of course, we have to make money to pay the bills — but it’s also important to find ways that we can pursue our dreams and achieve freedom sooner rather than later.

How?

By doing what you love… and getting paid for it.

What do we mean?

There’s an old famous quote from Confucius:

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

He said that over 2,000 years ago.

By doing something you love today, you’re no longer working towards retirement; you’re in retirement — because you’re doing the thing you would do even if you weren’t getting paid for it…

… and most people who get paid to do what they love… they never traditionally retire — because why would they?

The money you earn doing what you love is just a by-product (a helpful one!), so today becomes no longer a sacrifice but a celebration of the here and now.

Chasing a dream and pursuing what you love also takes sacrifice — you might have to hustle on the side for a while…

…but it’s so much more gratifying than trading your time for money.

So what do you love to do?

How can you get paid for doing what you love?

Figure that out… and you’ll probably never want to retire.

Write down any fears or obstacles that might be holding you back, and think of possible solutions or steps to overcome them.

This Week’s Challenge

Invest time in enhancing your skills related to your passion. It could be an online course, a tutorial, or even practicing the skill. Dedicate at least an hour.
